DAVAO EATS: PYRO UNLI WINGS @ Php 269
By: Joanna Kaye Remolar-Limjuco
We agreed to meet for early dinner at 6 pm. I arrived the earliest (ahem) at 5:50 pm and checked out the place.
Pyro is fairly small with 3 rows of tables, but the place was already jampacked! I went inside and could not find any vacant seat. Talked to the waitress who told me I was number 2 in waiting. Sounds good to me and anyway, my friends weren’t here yet, so I waited outside.
Walked around Mabini Commercial Complex, got updated on fb, checked my watch and it was already 6:30! Looked inside the resto. All the people eating in Pyro seemed to be enjoying themselves with no signs of stopping. Also, more customers were arriving, and the waiting list was up to #9. (I also noticed that most of them were younger than me ☹ but that’s another story).
Panda arrives! And in a short while Beng arrives too. We’re all very hungry at this point and very much tempted to eat appetizer or dessert at another place. But the thought of UNLI WINGS in 16 different flavors kept our feet from walking.
Finally! After an hour of standing outside we get a seat. We order immediately (because of course, we already planned what flavours to order, from the first round to the second round). Pammy, who was OTW, texted her choices, too. Is this the right application of Advance Mag-Isip? LOL)
From the first round of orders to the third round, we tried:
Buffalo, Teriyaki, Sour Cream, Garlic Parmesan, Cheetos Crusted, Spicy Korean, Salted Egg, Cheese Glazed, Salt & Vinegar, Pineapple Chili, And Ala-King.
Dips: Blue Cheese and Ranch
The Wings were DELICIOUS! Flavorful and tender, the chicken was well-soaked in the flavours and not just marinated on the outside. Served hot and fresh and finger-lickin-good!
The UNLI meal came with unli rice and a drink. Being the pigs that we are, we ate very little rice and moooooore of the chicken. (I think it was Pammy who came up with this brilliant idea) I ordered coke coz im YOLO like that.
VERDICT: Definitely a must-try! Bring your gang and have a blast getting messy fingers and eating delish wings!
P.S. I surprisingly liked Cheetos crusted, salt & vinegar, and pineapple chilli!
P.S.2. Take note of the unli rules. There was a group at the next table who ordered so much and were not able to finish it. Panda heard (with her superhuman ears) that they were charged more than double.
TIP: Reserve ahead! The waiter said they accept reservations so you don’t have to stand outside and wait for an hour. Just make sure you come on time ☺
