The Food For Flu (Sitio Babak Korean Resto)

By: Joanna Kaye Remolar-Limjuco

It’s the rainy season once again, and some of my friends have been getting a bad case of flu. I was starting to pride myself because I remained unaffected, when I woke up one morning with that cold sensation and scratchy throat. Help!

The whole day I was bummed about my impending case of flu. The Husband fetched me from work and then we found ourselves in Dona Vicenta Road. Suddenly we saw this restaurant:

Ooooh! Interesting. I SCREECHED for The Husband to immediately stop the car so I could get a better look. There were 2 things that caught my eye: First, there were 2 old Korean gentlemen eating, and whenever elder gentlemen eat in a Korean resto it gives me the impression that the food is “authentic” and not “pabebe.” Second, there was a big sign that read: Kimbap @ 100 Php only.

This is it, pancit!

The Husband and I sat ourselves down the resto. Immediately, we were given the menu. Though it was quite early (before 6 pm), there were other people having their early dinner.
We settled for Jjampong and Kimbap and lots of side dish ☺.

The kimchi was perfect! Sour, spicy and a bit sweet as well. I was beginning to feel better. We wolfed down all the side dish in a rush and (unashamedly) asked for refillS. The owner was gracious enough to oblige us.

Then our orders arrived. The jjampong was BIG in serving and generous in the seafood! Plus, the Jjampong had crab! Real crab! (My first time to have Jjampong with crab! I cry.) The freshness of the noodles, spiciness of the soup and meaty goodness of the shells, squid, and seafood were perfect! Whatever flu virus then present in my body was washed away by the kick and sumptuousness of the dish! Lip-smacking good for 250 Php!

The kimbap was compact, tasty, and satisfying. Definitely a good complement to the jjampong. Need I repeat that it was only 100 php?

The Husband and I were blown away by the goodness of the meal. He kept on trying to make eye-contact with the owner just to complement him.

May I just say again that their Jjampong is a cure for flu, heartache, weariness, and all ailments of the body? ☺ Its THAT GOOD. The Husband and I were both extremely happy with what we ate. I promised myself to go back there and try their version of Korean chicken. (Who wants to come with me and be a blaggirrr?)

BTW, sorry about the pictures. We almost forgot to take pictures because we were so overwhelmed.

Al-fresco, wallet-friendly, and most of all, GOOD food! See for yourself ☺
