A PLATEFUL OF GOODNESS @ Pepperplate
By: Joanna Kaye Remolar-Limjuco
After seemingly endless years of books, sweat, tears, and law, one of our most well-loved friends by God’s grace finally became a lawyer!! Welcome to the club, Atty. Aimee May Agbayani! (Personally, I think she’s one of the most-deserving persons to become a lawyer as she has integrity and fear of God – traits which are of utmost importance to the profession).
All these emotions couldn’t be contained and just needed to be vented out through chika and of course, a good hearty meal. Aimee, Teen, and I were coming from opposite directions. Where could we possibly meet up?
Aimee suggested Pepperplate – a quaint little resto located in front of Royal Mandaya Hotel. (I‘ve passed by it once and was immediately intrigued). The three of us were raring to go!
We’ve heard so much about their House Special – Baby Back Ribs, so we decided to try a half-rack of it. While waiting (for the ribs and for Teen), Aimee ordered a Vegetarian Salad (balance is the key ;p).

Now, don’t let the simple name fool you because the Salad was one of the yummiest Salads I have ever eaten!! (Take note, I’m not even a salad fan). Honey-sweet and super tasty, Aimee and I wolfed it down and were very much tempted not to leave anything for Teen. Only sheer conscience restrained us from finishing it all! Non-salad lovers, this may just convert you to the good side!
As far as entrees go, the Salad was a bang and I was already impressed. And then all our orders arrived: Fish & Fries with 2 dips, it was delicious and the white dip was my favourite; The Chicken was saucy and Teen said the sauce was grabe ma-effort which made their food different from other resto; and then of course, the Baby Back Ribs – a generous serving of a juicy rack of flavorful ribs!
Perfect to pair with the yellow rice! Aimee, apparently running out of words to say, just said indescribable sa kalami!
We were so satisfied with our meal and so energized by our chika. And yet-one thing was still intriguing us on the menu --- Fried Oreo. How would that taste like? Well only one way to find out.
It was a twist on everyone’s favourite cookie, in ala mode style! Fried oreo was hot contrasted by the cold vanilla ice cream! Yummy!
Needless to say, we left the place with a full tummy and a happy smile on our faces. ☺
