Recharge in this organic farm + charming French café

Its M’s first birthday! So much to thank God for for all the protection, provision, and most of all, the people He sent to help us take care of M (It takes a village to raise a child, they say). Where to celebrate this momentous event?

The city felt so stuffy with the traffic and Kadayawan craze, that I was just craving for some soil and trees. Oooh! Why not try this farm + café that I’ve heard so much about?

La Fermette is a short trip to Tacunan, Mintal, Davao City, within the vicinity of DECA Tacunan.

Trees, native huts, soil, family. I was already smiling.

When I entered the café, I was instantly enthralled by the charm of the interiors. The place had the effect of me just wanting to get a book and crawl in some corner while sipping a warm cup of chocolate, or to just stare at the outside and think about life)

We looked at the menu and ordered in advance. While waiting, we went outside and explored the back of the café, where we found a farm. There were cows grazing, native chickens, and native pigs roaming freely.

This one’s Luday; milk’s going to be squeezed from her in a short while; the other cows were grazing

As we were roaming around, we saw a man carrying Durian fruits which apparently fell from the tree. It turn out this simple man was Mr. Francisco Tam, and he runs the place. We chatted; he said he had 6 children, and his son was the one manning the kitchen. We shared more stories about family, kids, the organic farm, until we reached the topic of the Durian he was carrying. He said the fruits just fell, and asked would we like to taste them. Oh would we?! Mr. Tam, you read our minds right

 who’s excited?!

Voila! Organic durian which riped in the tree. Puyat variety

Lami M?!

I’m not in the pic cause I was so busy enjoying the durian! Sweet, a bit bitter, juicy, soft with a bit of firmness, small-sized seed, and let me tell you it was the best.durian.i.ever.had!!! The place is worth a trip if only for the durian! They’re selling it at 60 pesos per kilo, btw.

The 3-kilo durian was enough to feed the 8 of us because it was so filling. Then the waiter informed us our food was ready.

We had the Beef Stroganoff, Tarragon Chicken Cream, Pork Bourguignion, Banh-mi bowl, Chocolate Cake, and Kefir Yofurt with honey and fresh fruits.

They said that each meal was good for one person, but the serving of the meat was generous and it was so filling that we shared everything and just added rice. (Is organic meat and rice really this filling and satisfying, or was it the durian in our tummys?)

The salad was zesty, main dishes were delicious and filling, the chocolate cake was rich, and the yogurt was sour, sweet, and fruity. Overall a big yum! Guilt-less too ‘cause its organic. Very happy with our choice to dine here! Could you tell by the big smiles on our faces?

Happy 1st birthday M! Thank you God!

Check out their menu here below. They’re closed on Mondays, btw.
